Osoyoos & District Arts Council

Message from President Tracey Carnochan

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2021. With all the changes and challenges that are currently being felt by the arts community and in consequence, the Osoyoos & District Arts Council it was important that a mechanism was put in place to reach and share information with our members and member groups. So here we are.

Needless to say, covid has not been kind to the arts community. The inability to have mass gatherings has seriously impacted our musicians and preforming arts. Likewise, The Art Gallery of Osoyoos was forced to limit the numbers within their space as well as the amount of time they were open. Collaborations in many forms have limited what our community groups were able to do. The same restrictions have impacted the board as we have now had to find the means to gather and work remotely as well as pushed back strategy sessions and group interactions.

As the situations changed we tried to find various changes to help and highlight our community artisans and performers. We feel we are on the brink. The new website is the first step as it will allow for more tools to be put into use for the benefit of both the board and the arts community. The Osoyoos Performing Arts team has explored many options and is now ready to utilize a couple of ways to bring performances back to you. The Art Gallery of Osoyoos continues to showcase local art with all the proper safeguards in place and have a full slate of shows lined up for the year. We are moving forward and are looking forward to the new initiatives we have been exploring and are now ready to execute. Exciting times!

Be sure that the Osoyoos & District Arts Council board has missed you and is looking forward to the day that we can meet at that concert or art show and just have that conversation.

Take care and stay safe.

Tracey Carnochan
