RUMPLESTILTSKEIN FIBRE ARTS GUILD
In 1981 a group of ladies interested in spinning, weaving and felting got together to learn and enjoy working together. During the next year they worked out a constitution and became a non-profit society called the Rumplestiltskein Wheel and Loom Guild, offering various workshops at the schools; also participating at the Rock Creek Fall Fair as an educational exhibit.
Over the next few years, 4 of the ladies moved away and as the numbers of the original group dwindled the focus changed to quilting. In 2002 we officially changed our name to what it is today.
We promote the arts through teaching various forms, such as quilting, felting, fibre art, sewing and needle work just to name a few.
We meet every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from September to June. We are currently discussing an evening meeting as well to encourage newcomers.
We take part in the Christmas Craft Fair in Rock Creek to help raise funds for supplies.
The latest class was in “Values” taught by Miriam March a member, this is a collage style project due in January. We are always open to new ideas and are planning new activities for the new year.
We have held our meetings at various locations over the years, and are currently meeting at the Kettle Wildlife Hall in Rock Creek.
Our members are very willing to try new crafts and types of handwork as well as the quilting projects and group challenges that we participate in. We contribute to our community by donations of quilts to those who are dealing with serious illness, and those who have suffered losses through fire or flood. Parkview Manor has received placemats, slippers and Christmas stockings. During Covid, the guild supplied hundreds of free masks for our local community, dispensed through the Riverside Centre.
We are currently partnered with the Mennonite Restoration Committee providing quilts to those in the broader community who are able to return to their homes after losses.
